The Glass Studio at Monash University has offered courses in glass art since the mid 70's making it the oldest tertiary glass studio in Australia. It continues to run the only degree course in Victoria within the Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Art & Design.
The purpose designed studio remains one of the most uniquely situated studios in the world, residing atop a seven story building with panoramic views of Melbourne and the surrounding suburbs. Monash carries with it a reputation for excellence in expert tuition. As a result, numerous graduates from these courses are successfully practicing artists both nationally and internationally.
Open Mould & Lost wax casting

Tutor: Graham Orridge
In this workshop students will cast a bass-relief sculpture from a clay original & a three-dimensional sculpture from a wax original in lead crystal. All technical aspects will be covered from mould making, wax sculpting & firing schedules to polishing techniques. This class is suitable for beginners & previous short course students who wish to further explore these techniques.

Fusing & Slumping
|
Tutor: Bethany Wheeler
Learn how to make a collection of small fused & slumped glass bowls, platters & fused glass jewellery. We will cover glass cutting, firing schedules, loading of kilns, slumping, finishing techniques, sandblasting & engraving.

Beginners Glass Blowing

Tutor: Nadia Mercuri
This course is intended for beginners who have little or no experience with molten glass. Emphasis will be placed on the skills necessary to complete simple paperweights and blown vessels.
