Postgraduate Fine Arts and Visual Arts

Monash Art & Design has become synonymous with excellence and leadership, and is recognized as being at the forefront of research on the world stage.

Graduates from the postgraduate fine arts programs have made significant contributions to Australian visual culture; participating in solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally and receiving prestigious awards and research grants.

The Department encompasses nine studios: 

As professional visual artists, staff bring individual expertise and dedication to their teaching, which reflects the diverse approaches found in contemporary visual culture. Students can also choose to study electronic media art out of Monash's Centre for Electronic Media Art (CEMA).

Monash Art & Design offers a unique studio-based Master of Fine Art where candidates are examined on visual exhibitions, accompanying exegesis and a minor coursework component.

The Master of Visual Arts is a coursework degree that provides critical guidance in contemporary visual arts philosophies and offers the flexibility of both on-campus and off-campus study, and attracts artists wishing to work from their own studio.

Doctoral and MA programs are also available through the Faculty.
